Where childhood is wild, muddy, and deeply loved
Rooted in nature,
guided by courage
Sisu Outdoor School is located in Redmond, Washington, and continues the two-decade tradition of Tiny Treks Northwest. Grounded in years of outdoor learning and community, Sisu carries forward a deep respect for childhood and the belief that nature is a powerful teacher.
Rooted in the Finnish concept of sisu—quiet courage, resilience, and heart—we believe children thrive when given time, trust, and space outdoors. Our days unfold through child-led play, seasonal rhythms, and meaningful connection to place.
We learn and play on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Snoqualmie, Duwamish, and Sammamish peoples, and strive to move through the natural world with care and respect—rain or shine.
Shaped by the Seasons
At Sisu, our days are shaped by the seasons, the weather, and the children themselves—from our youngest preschoolers to our older students. We move together through outdoor play, exploration, meals, and rest, returning to familiar rhythms that create a sense of safety, belonging, and joy for every age.
Because outdoors is the best classroom
Our Programs
Our Outdoor Preschool offers young children a gentle, nature- and play-based beginning to school.
Through play, exploration, and daily time outdoors, children build confidence, curiosity, and a strong connection to the natural world.
*For the 2026–2027 school year, students must be 3 years old and potty trained by September 1.
Outdoor Explorers is designed for older students ready for deeper exploration and greater independence.
Longer hikes, collaborative challenges, and shared responsibility encourage confidence and leadership, while time spent exploring the natural world builds curiosity, resilience, and lasting connections with peers.
Summer Freedom is our relaxed, nature-rich summer offering, designed to give children unhurried time outdoors. Days are shaped by building forts, playing in the forest, caring for the garden, searching for wildlife, and following curiosity wherever it leads, guided by the rhythms of the season and child-led play.
Our summer camps are grouped by age and offered in weekly Monday–Thursday sessions, with two time options: 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. or 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
